Transformation and women empowerment are full-force movements requiring collective action and shared ownership.

This is what makes events like International Women’s Day successful. This global day marks a call to action for accelerating transformation specifically through women’s equality; it also celebrates women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements.

To honour individuals and corporations paving the way for transformation in the construction industry, the African Construction Awards, powered by the National African Federation for the Building Industry (NAFBI) and co-located with African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo is set to take place on 10 June 2020 in Johannesburg. This prestigious event highlights the year-round pursuit of excellence through the passion of leading professionals, entrepreneurs and rising stars working in the sector.

Nominate yourself, a deserving individual or organisation that has exemplified inspiration, vision, innovation and leadership for African women in the industry under one of the following categories:

  • Women in construction award: Young entrepreneur/Rising star
  • Lifetime achievement award: Women in concrete and construction
  • Female innovator of the year: African smart cities award
  • Media and communications excellence award
  • Smart city technology
  • Smart architectural design
  • Women excellence achievement
  • Black business lifetime achievement
  • Disaster management
  • Rural infrastructure leading to job creation
  • Township infrastructure leading to job creation

I look forward to receiving your nominations before 30 March 2020 and working with you in acknowledging and appreciating all those who soldier on, making a conscious effort to break barriers and ensure we maintain equitable representation in key strategic roles in Africa’s construction sector!
